Backstory
June was brought to the same sale barn as Bowie and transferred to Colorado, where she was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and suffered from arthritis in her front legs. She was passed between different barns and owners until a rescue organization stepped in to help her. After suffering several abscesses, she was eventually healthy enough to be transferred to us.

She is blind in one eye, possibly due to a previous injury.

Piper's journey began in Wyoming, where her owners found her at 3 months old in a field with a leg injury after it got stuck in a wire fence, and her hoof had come off. They brought her to Dr. Vlahos (one of the nation's leading equine surgeons), and an attempt was made to re-grow the hoof, but infection set in. On a routine visit to our sanctuary, Dr. Vlahos received the grim news. After a long consultation, we offered to adopt Piper, sponsor her surgery and raise her with prosthetic. Our team is uniquely qualified for daily care to give her a long, beautiful life.
